Ever wondered how to take your dental practice to the next level with the latest in soft tissue regeneration? Learn from Dr. Anina Zürcher, as she guides you on the path to mastering this advanced, patient-friendly procedure.

When do you use Geistlich Fibro-Gide®?

The use of Geistlich Fibro-Gide® depends on the clinical situation. It can be employed for treating buccal soft tissue defects or when avoiding a second surgical site is desired.

Which thickness do you use most frequently?

A 6 mm thickness is often used, as it allows for customization according to the recipient site's requirements.

When would you use 3 mm?

A 3 mm thickness can be utilized for soft tissue grafting, as it is typically sufficient for soft tissue thickening and recession coverage.

What time point do you choose for soft tissue augmentation?

Soft tissue grafting may be done at the latest stage when conducting a GBR procedure during implant placement. Alternatively, Geistlich Fibro-Gide® can be placed at the time of implant placement.

What outcome measure do you use?

To evaluate a soft tissue grafting procedure, initial and final photographs are compared, clinical measurements are taken, and patient satisfaction is assessed. For research purposes, profilometric measurements with an intraoral scanner or thickness measurements with a periodontal or endodontic file can also be considered.

What are the benefits of Geistlich Fibro-Gide® compared to autologous tissue?

Geistlich Fibro-Gide® provides potential benefits such as less pain for the patient due to a single surgical site and reduced stress for the clinician. It is also simpler to use, as it can be taken directly from the packaging and placed intraorally.

Your tip for new users is…

Before placing Geistlich Fibro-Gide® intraorally, moisten it to better assess the volume increase, which is about 20% to 30%*. The main challenge lies in preparing the recipient site rather than using Geistlich Fibro-Gide® itself. Utilize available kits and workshops to familiarize yourself with the material and its handling. When using Geistlich Fibro-Gide® for the first time, start with simple cases to become accustomed to the material and procedure before moving on to more complex situations.

*according to the IFU the dimensional increase due to swelling of the device is 3-12 %
